Farhad Shakeri

Reports indicate that Farhad Shakari, a Sunni citizen and prisoner of conscience at Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad, was denied medical treatment and care, leading to a deteriorating physical condition following repeated hunger strikes. He had been held in temporary detention since February 2016, with his case reviewed without adherence to international human rights standards.

It has been reported that Farhad Shakari faced various physical issues after his arrest and was denied the right to be transferred to a specialised medical centre. Since August 2023, he had engaged in several hunger strikes and recently ended his strike conditionally.

During the judicial process, Farhad Shakari's case was referred back to the investigative branch due to irregularities in judicial and security investigations, prolonging the review process for him and other defendants. Additionally, the defendants were deprived of access to legal counsel and other defence rights.

Farhad Shakari was arrested by security forces in February 2016 and, after interrogation and charges, was transferred to Vakilabad Prison. He was sentenced to death on charges of enmity against God through membership and collaboration with Salafi groups.

According to reports, Farhad Shakari was executed at dawn on 8 April 2025 in Vakilabad Prison, Mashhad. His family has not been able to receive his body and is unaware of his burial location, causing them concern.
