According to a report received by the Hengaw Human Rights Organization, on the evening of Sunday, Khordad 18, 1404 June 8, 2025 , Saman Mirdoraghi, a 29yearold athlete and resident of Andimeshk, died under severe torture by agents of the Intelligence Department while in detention at the Andimeshk Police Investigation Center, in Khuzestan Province.
Saman Mirdoraghi was subjected to intense torture to force a confession after his arrest, which led to his death. Severe bruising and signs of torture were visible on his body. Security agencies only agreed to hand over his body on the condition that no photos of the body would be published and that the family would refrain from publicizing the case.
According to informed sources, Hassan Sepahvand, the prosecutor of Andimeshk—who is reportedly close to Mehran Amirpour, the head of the Hosseinieh police station—played a direct role in Saman Mirdoraghi's arrest, case fabrication, and eventual death.
The report states that this Lur citizen died after being subjected to severe torture the night before his death by the Andimeshk prosecutor, the police station chief, and an intelligence officer. The torture allegedly included electric shocks, flogging, and methods that restricted his breathing, ultimately leading to his death.
This young man was arrested on the evening of Monday, Khordad 12 June 2 , when Islamic Republic security forces raided his shop and took him to an unknown location. Several others were also arrested in connection with the case.
According to sources close to the Mirdoraghi family, he had been accused of firing 16 Kalashnikov bullets at the home of Mehran Amirpour, the head of the Hosseinieh police station. However, CCTV footage from his shop shows that he was at work at the exact time of the alleged shooting. Several others have also been detained by security agencies in relation to this case.
It is worth noting that during the six days of Samans detention, despite the family's efforts, the security agencies provided no information about his condition and denied them access to a lawyer or any form of visitation.
On Wednesday, Khordad 20 June 11, 2025 , Saman Mirdoraghi was buried under tight security measures and in the presence of a limited number of family members and relatives at Behesht Zahra Cemetery in Andimeshk.
A relative of Saman Mirdoraghi told Hengaw that the Islamic Republics security agencies only handed over the body after the family signed a written pledge not to publicize the case and obtained signatures from tribal elders. The burial ceremony was held in a restricted manner and under heavy security.
The source added that intelligence agents prevented the family from approaching Samans body and conducted the ritual washing and shrouding themselves. Only a simple burial was allowed, and any filming or photography of the body was strictly prohibited.
