During a shooting by security forces on January 8 in the Tehranpars area of Tehran, Vahid Arzanlou, who had gone to help his brother, was shot twice in the neck and fell into a coma. Hamid Arzanlou was severely injured by a bullet to the head and also fell into a coma.

Vahid Arzanlou passed away in the hospital on January 17, and Hamid Arzanlou died after a few days of unconsciousness on January 11.

وحید ارزانلو در تاریخ ۲۷ دی ماه در بیمارستان درگذشت و حمید ارزانلو نیز پس از چند روز بیهوشی در تاریخ ۲۱ دی ماه جان خود را از دست داد.

به گفته منابع نزدیک به خانواده، نهادهای امنیتی برای تحویل پیکر این دو برادر مبلغ یک میلیارد و پانصد میلیون تومان از خانواده دریافت کرده و آن ها را وادار به امضای تعهد کرده اند که علت مرگ را «سکته مغزی» اعلام کنند. همچنین شرط تحویل اجساد، حضور خانواده در راهپیمایی حکومتی میدان انقلاب عنوان شده است.
