Batool Gerami, the mother of Sajjad Samadi, who was among those killed during the protests in January of the previous year, has been arrested and transferred to the central prison in Gonabad. This occurred while she was hospitalised due to bone fractures sustained from an assault by government forces.
On 28 March 2026, Batool Gerami, one of the justice-seeking mothers in the city of Gonabad, was discharged from the hospital and transferred to the central prison of the city, despite not having completed treatment for her severe physical injuries.
Previously, Batool Gerami was severely beaten during a raid by Basij and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces at a ceremony on the last Thursday of the year at her son's grave. As a result of these attacks, she lost consciousness and suffered a shoulder fracture. She was directly transferred from her hospital bed to the detention centre.
The transfer to prison occurred while her general condition was reported to be critical due to her injuries, and she has been deprived of full access to medical care.
Her 22-year-old son, Sajjad Samadi, was injured by direct gunfire from government forces during the Gonabad protests on 8 January 2026. Due to fear of arrest and not seeking medical attention, he died from severe bleeding.
