About Us

Witness Report Incorporated

Witness Report Incorporated is an independent, international not-for-profit public-interest association registered in Australia. We document people affected by human rights violations and publish structured, publicly accessible case records for researchers, journalists, human rights organizations, families, and the public.

The project began in 2022 during the Woman, Life, Freedom (Zan, Zendegi, Azadi) movement, when volunteers recognized the urgent need for reliable, organized, and lasting documentation amid widespread internet disruptions and fragmented reporting. This history explains where our work began; it does not limit where we document cases. What started as a volunteer-driven initiative has since evolved into an Australian-registered association with an international documentation mandate.

Global Scope

Witness Report may document a case from any country or region. Many current records concern Iran because of the organization’s origins, source networks, and available reporting, but our mandate is not geographically limited. We record reported arrests, detention, imprisonment, enforced disappearance, abduction, killings, and other human rights violations wherever reliable public information can be responsibly documented.

We believe that every victim, every witness, and every story deserves to be remembered. Through careful documentation, structured data, and responsible use of technology, we make case information easier to find, compare, research, and preserve.

Our volunteers and members collect, review, translate, organize, and preserve information so that affected people are not forgotten and reliable records remain available for future research and reporting.

Documentation Standards

Records are developed from publicly available sources and reviewed to improve accuracy, consistency, and context. Where possible, information is compared across sources and updated when credible new material becomes available. A published record reflects documented reporting and should not be read as a judicial finding.

We distinguish reported information from established facts, protect sensitive personal information where necessary, and provide ways to submit additional information or request corrections.
