Witness Report has implemented an update to its detention status classifications to enhance clarity, accuracy, and alignment with internationally recognised human rights terminology.
As part of this refinement, the following changes have been applied:
- The status previously labelled as “Lost” has been updated to “Missing.”
The Persian equivalent “گمشده” remains unchanged. - The status previously labelled as “Missing” has been updated to “Enforced Disappearance.”
The Persian equivalent has been updated from “مفقودالاثر” to “ناپدیدسازی قهری.”
This change reflects a more precise distinction between general missing persons cases and those involving state responsibility or systematic concealment, which fall under the definition of enforced disappearance in international human rights law.
By adopting this terminology, the Witness Report aims to:
- Improve the accuracy of case classification
- Strengthen the legal and analytical value of the data
- Better support documentation efforts related to human rights violations
These updates are part of our ongoing effort to ensure that the platform remains consistent, transparent, and aligned with global standards in human rights reporting.
