Sheykh Zahed Shahabi, a resident of Saqqez, remains in temporary detention at the city's prison as of 14 September 2026. This follows approximately six months of legal uncertainty since his arrest.
On 14 March 2026, it was reported that Shahabi had been violently arrested by government forces in Sanandaj. His location and condition were unknown at that time.
Previously, on 30 May 2025, Shahabi had been released on bail from a prison in Sanandaj. This release occurred on 28 May 2025.
Earlier, on 6 April 2025, Shahabi was temporarily detained and transferred to a security detention centre in Sanandaj for interrogation. His arrest had taken place on 24 March 2025 by agents of the Saqqez Intelligence Department.
The initial arrest occurred on 29 March 2025, when Shahabi, an activist of the Khanqah of the Path to Freedom, was detained with violence and intimidation. This followed a raid by agents of the Saqqez city intelligence department on the Khanqah of the Path to Freedom.
