Alireza Shir-Mohammadi (born 1998 – died June 10, 2019) was an Iranian political prisoner of conscience who was attacked by two criminal inmates on the evening of Monday, June 10, 2019, in the Greater Tehran Central Prison (Fashafuyeh). After being injured by knife stabs, he lost his life. He had been sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment on charges of "insulting the sanctities," "insulting the founder of the Islamic Republic," "insulting the leadership," and "propaganda against the regime."
Shir-Mohammadi was arrested on July 15, 2018. This arrest was related to his activities on social media platforms Telegram and Instagram. According to his lawyer, Alireza's appeal court was scheduled for July 9. According to his mother, the judge had set a bail of 800 million Rials, but they were unable to provide it.
Shir-Mohammadi and Barzan Mohammadi, another prisoner arrested during the August 2017 protests, went on a hunger strike due to "lack of personal security" in Fashafuyeh prison and in opposition to the denial of their request for transfer to Evin Prison. In March 2019, in a joint letter with Barzan Mohammadi about their hunger strike, he wrote: "Living in the quagmire of Greater Tehran Prison is not worthy of us."
Shir-Mohammadi was considered an active prisoner and went on a hunger strike in protest of the non-observance of the principle of separation of crimes and for his transfer to Evin Prison, ending his strike after officials promised to follow up. Amnesty International had expressed concern about the situation of the two prisoners, "Alireza Shir-Mohammadi" and "Barzan Mohammadi," in Fashafuyeh prison.
On June 10, 2019, Shir-Mohammadi was slaughtered by more than 30 knife stabs by two general population inmates in Fashafuyeh prison. He was buried one day after the murder on Wednesday, June 12.
The Tehran prosecutor issued an indictment for the defendants in the premeditated murder case of Alireza Shir-Mohammadi and began proceedings on this case.
Finally, on December 18, 2019, the execution of the murderer’s retribution sentence was carried out in Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj.
