Isa Cholandim

Isa Cholandim, 45 years old, is an artist, painter, graphic artist, sculptor and social activist. This artist, who lives in Rasht, was arrested on Tuesday, 10 January 2023, at around 3:00 PM by IRGC intelligence at his home in this city. He was in solitary confinement and under interrogation for nine days and was transferred to the general ward of Lakan prison on December 29.

According to Mr Cholandim's family, the officers searched his house. They seized personal items such as mobile phones, laptops, and some of the artist's works of the faces of some of the victims of the protests he recently created on canvas.

Mr Cholandim is a university professor and has been working for a long time to repeal the child marriage law by creating works of art and launching a signature collection campaign. He is also the founder of the "Kajkouk" painting group and "Maj" art group and has written and translated several volumes of art books, and has been the secretary of several art festivals.

This artist has also participated in several national and international exhibitions in his artistic portfolio, and recently, he accompanied the nationwide protests by creating portraits of some of the victims of the nationwide uprising of the Iranian people with the technique of embroidery and stitching on fabric.

According to Human Rights in Iran, on Monday, January 6, 2025, will not return to prison after being sent on a leave of absence. During a phone call from the judge of the execution branch of Rasht General and Revolution Court, he found out that he was released and there is no need to go back to prison.
