در 10 دی 1401، در چهلمین روز پس از کشته شدن هفت تن از شهروندان شهرستان جوانرود، نیروهای دولتی ایران به سوی افرادی که در سوگ تجمع کرده بودند، آتش گشودند. برهان الیاسی، مغازه دار بر اثر اصابت گلوله به بیمارستان منتقل شد و بعداً به دلیل جراحات وارده جان خود را از دست داد.
