He was executed at Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz on 28 February 2021. Prior to his execution, he had sewn his lips shut and gone on a hunger strike to protest the denial of family visits and alleged mistreatment by prison authorities.

Hossein Silavi was a political prisoner who was executed at Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz on 28 February 2021. He had been arrested on 16 May 2017 on charges of involvement in attacks on a police outpost near Ahvaz and a local police station.

According to a former political prisoner and human rights activist, security forces summoned the families of Hossein Silavi and three other prisoners to Ahvaz under the pretext of a prison visit. They were allowed only a 20-minute meeting and were not informed that the executions were imminent. About half an hour later, as the prisoners' bodies were brought out of the prison, their families realized that the death sentences had been carried out.

روز یکشنبه ۱۰ اسفندماه ۱۳۹۹ حکم اعدام حسین سیلاوی زندانی سیاسی محبوس در زندان سپیدار اهواز به اجرا درآمد.
نیروهای امنیتی حسین سیلاوی را در تاریخ ۲۶ اردیبهشت ۱۳۹۶ بازداشت کردند. دلیل بازداشت وی «دست داشتن در حمله به پاسگاهی در نزدیکی شهر اهواز و یک کلانتری» در این شهر عنوان شد.

به گفته یک فعال حقوق بشر و زندانی سابق: « نیروهای امنیتی با خانواده وی و سه زندانی دیگر تماس گرفته و از آنها خواسته اند که در میدان چهارشیر اهواز حاضر شوند. بعد خانواده این افراد را بدون اینکه از قرار اجرای حکم اعدام مطلع باشند به زندان سپیدار و به ملاقات با فرزندان خود برده اند.» ملاقاتی که فقط ۲۰ دقیقه بوده است و بعد از آن خانواده این زندانیان در محوطه اطراف منتظر می مانند و حدود نیم ساعت بعد وقتی که اجساد فرزندانشان از زندان بیرون آورده می شود متوجه اجرای حکم اعدام می شوند.
