HHossein Akhtarzand, born in 1976, was a laborer and the sole breadwinner for his family.
According to witnesses, on the afternoon of 15 June 2009, while returning home from work, Hossein reached the area near Darvazeh Shiraz in Isfahan and joined the public protests. Members of the Basij militia and plainclothes security forces attacked the demonstrators. Around fifteen people, fearing for their lives, sought refuge in the parking garage of a medical office building on Haleh Alley. Hossein entered the building with them. A few minutes later, however, he became trapped on the roof of the third floor, surrounded by security forces.
Witnesses say that he was severely beaten with batons and repeatedly punched and kicked. He was then thrown from the third floor.
Members of the public managed to take his critically injured body to Shariati Hospital, but he died from his injuries a few hours later.
حسین اخترزند، متولد سال ۱۳۵۵ تنها نان آور خانه و کارگر بود. به روایت شاهدان، عصر ۲۵ خرداد ۱۳۸۸، هنگام بازگشت از کار، حسین به نزدیکی دروازه شیراز اصفهان رسید و همراه مردم در اعتراضات شرکت کرد. نیروهای بسیجی و لباس شخصی به جمعیت معترض یورش بردند. حدود پانزده نفر از ترس جان خود به پارکینگ یک ساختمان پزشکان در بن بست هاله پناه بردند. حسین نیز همراه آنان وارد شد. اما دقایقی بعد، بر بام طبقه ی سوم، در محاصره ی نیروهای امنیتی گرفتار شد.
شاهدان می گویند وی زیر ضربات سنگین باتوم، مشت و لگد قرار گرفت و سپس او را از طبقه ی سوم به پایین انداخته شد.
پیکر نیمه جانش با تلاش مردم به بیمارستان شریعتی رسید، اما در اثر جراحات که ساعتی بعد، جان سپرد.
