According to news sources, Rasul Rahimi, a journalist and media activist from Mahabad, was arrested by security forces on 26 May 2024. It has been reported that the arrest was carried out by officers from the Mahabad Intelligence Department.
Despite the passage of time since the arrest, there is still no information available regarding the legal status of the journalist's case.
Additionally, Rasul Rahimi had previously been summoned to the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office in Urmia on 15 September 2018, following a complaint by a Mahabad representative, on charges of spreading false information online.

به گزارش منابع خبری، در 5 خرداد 1403، رسول رحیمی، روزنامه نگار و فعال رسانه ای اهل مهاباد، توسط نیروهای امنیتی بازداشت شد. گفته شده است که این بازداشت توسط ماموران اداره اطلاعات مهاباد انجام شده است.
با وجود گذشت زمان از تاریخ بازداشت، هنوز اطلاعاتی درباره وضعیت حقوقی پرونده این روزنامه نگار در دست نیست.
همچنین، رسول رحیمی پیشتر در 24 شهریور 1397 به دلیل شکایت یکی از نمایندگان مهاباد به اتهام نشر اکاذیب در فضای مجازی به دادسرای عمومی و انقلاب ارومیه احضار شده بود.
