Kianoush Zandi

Kianoush Zandi went missing on 2 January 2018 during public protests in Iran. Reports indicate that he, along with Saro Ghahremani, was attacked by security forces on that day. Their vehicle was stopped in front of the Sanandaj terminal by military forces, who opened fire on it, according to eyewitnesses. It remains unclear whether Kianoush Zandi was killed or injured in the incident, or if he was arrested and later died in a hospital or detention centre. On 13 January 2018, his body was handed over to his family and buried on the same day.

Authorities have reportedly declared the cause of death for several detainees as suicide, while local residents and witnesses claim the deaths resulted from police shootings. Some members of parliament have requested to visit prisons to investigate the authenticity of the suicide claims.

On 13 January 2018, intelligence officers informed Kianoush Zandi's family of his death. A memorial service for Kianoush Zandi was held at the Farjeh Mosque in Sanandaj.

Kianoush Zandi's family stated that intelligence ministry officers visited their home, took his mother to bury the body in a pre-prepared grave, and conducted the burial.

On 18 January 2018, a memorial service was held at the gravesite of Kianoush Zandi and other deceased individuals in Behesht Mohammadi, Sanandaj. The ceremony took place under heavy security measures and with a significant presence of officers.
