Farzad Asadpour, son of Fereydoun, was born on June 10, 1982, in Urmia. He was a student at Azad University and a worker in a goldsmith workshop. Farzad's father was one of the tradesmen in the Urmia goldsmith market. On Tuesday, May 23, 2006, Farzad Asadpour, like thousands of others, participated in a protest in Urmia against a cartoon published by the Iran newspaper.
It is said that on this day, Farzad threw leaflets into the air at the Aghzi Bazaar (Ataie Crossroad) in Urmia, which sparked protests in this part of Urmia. It is still unclear whether Farzad was injured by a baton strike or direct gunfire from security forces to his head and was transferred to the hospital. However, the next day, on May 24, 2006, he passed away in the hospital.
The funeral ceremony was held at noon on May 26, with only his father and mother allowed to attend. Law enforcement officers advised the family to state that the cause of death was a head injury in the bathroom.
