On 9 January 2026, at 3:00 AM, security forces conducted a raid on the residences of several citizens, waking them from sleep, violently assaulting them, and detaining them. The individuals included Beita Hemmati and her husband Mohammad Reza Majidi Asl, as well as their two neighboring brothers, Kourosh Zamani Nejad and Behrouz Zamani Nejad. Simultaneously, Amir Hemmati, Beita's brother, was also detained.
The case of these five individuals was examined in Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Eman Afshari, known for issuing severe sentences for political defendants.
The charges against them included "operational actions for the hostile government of the United States," with specific allegations citing "chanting slogans and throwing concrete blocks at Basij forces during protests."
Ultimately, four of them—Beita Hemmati, also known as Beita Ali Hemmati, Mohammad Reza Majidi Asl, Kourosh Zamani Nejad, and Behrouz Zamani Nejad—were sentenced to death and the complete confiscation of their assets. Amir Hemmati, also known as Amir Ali Hemmati, received a sentence of 5 years and 8 months in prison along with the complete confiscation of his assets.
The death sentences of Kourosh Zamaninejad and his father, Behrouz Zamaninejad, two prisoners held at Greater Tehran Penitentiary, were overturned by Branch 32 of the Supreme Court after it accepted their request for a retrial. بامداد ۱۹ دی ماه ۱۴۰۴، ساعت سه صبح، مأموران امنیتی با یورش به محل سکونت چند شهروند، آن ها را از خواب بیدار کرده، با خشونت مورد ضرب وشتم قرار داده و بازداشت کردند. این افراد شامل بیتا همتی و همسرش محمدرضا مجیدی اصل، و همچنین دو همسایه شان، کوروش زمانی نژاد و بهروز زمانی نژاد بودند. همزمان امیر همتی، برادر بیتا نیز بازداشت شد.
پرونده این پنج نفر در شعبه ۲۶ دادگاه انقلاب تهران به ریاست قاضی بدنام ایمان افشاری بررسی شد؛ شعبه ای که سابقه صدور احکام سنگین برای متهمان سیاسی را در کارنامه دارد.
اتهام مطرح شده علیه این افراد «اقدام عملیاتی برای دولت متخاصم آمریکا» عنوان شده است؛ اتهامی که مصداق آن در پرونده، «شعار دادن و پرتاب بلوک سیمانی به سمت نیروهای بسیجی در جریان اعتراضات» ذکر شده است.
در نهایت، برای چهار نفر از آن ها، بیتا همتی، یا بیتا علی همتی، محمدرضا مجیدی اصل، کوروش زمانی نژاد و بهروز زمانی نژاد، حکم اعدام و مصادره کامل اموال صادر شده است. امیر همتی، یا امیر علی همتی، نیز به ۵ سال و ۸ ماه حبس و مصادره کامل اموال محکوم شده است.
حکم اعدام کوروش زمانی نژاد و پدر وی، بهروز زمانی نژاد، دو زندانی محبوس در زندان تهران بزرگ توسط شعبه ۳۲ دیوان عالی با پذیرش درخواست اعاده دادرسی آنان نقض شد و پرونده جهت رسیدگی مجدد به شعبه هم عرض ارجاع داده شد. گزارش به تاریخ سوم امرداد ۱۴۰۵.
