داود جلیلی در جریان اعتراضات روز ۱۹ دی ماه در شاهین شهر استان اصفهان گروهی از معترضان در خیابان های این شهر تجمع کرده بودند که ناگهان نور سبز لیزر بر روی جمعیت مشاهده می شود. لحظاتی بعد صدای شلیک شنیده شده و در پی آن داود جلیلی از ناحیه پشت هدف گلوله قرار می گیرد؛ گلوله ای که به قلب او اصابت کرده است.
پس از تیراندازی جمعیت دچار پراکندگی می شود. یکی از معترضان حاضر در محل داود جلیلی را که به شدت مجروح شده بود از زمین بلند کرده و به بیمارستان گلدیس شاهین شهر منتقل می کند.
این فرد پس از انتقال داود به بیمارستان تلفن همراه او را برداشته و با خانواده اش تماس می گیرد و اعلام می کند که داود بر اثر اصابت گلوله کشته شده است.
خانواده داود جلیلی از روز بعد به مدت یک هفته هر روز به سردخانه باغ رضوان اصفهان مراجعه می کنند تا پیکر فرزندشان را شناسایی کنند اما در این مدت موفق به یافتن جسد نمی شوند. نهایتاً پس از گذشت یک هفته پیکر داود جلیلی به خانواده تحویل داده می شود.

On January 9, during protests in Shahin Shahr, Isfahan Province, a group of demonstrators gathered in the streets when a green laser light was suddenly observed on the crowd. Moments later, gunfire was heard, and as a result, Davood Jalili was shot in the back; the bullet struck his heart.
Following the shooting, the crowd dispersed. One of the protesters present at the scene lifted the severely injured Davood Jalili from the ground and transported him to Goldis Hospital in Shahin Shahr. After taking Davood to the hospital, this individual picked up his mobile phone, contacted his family, and informed them that Davood had died from the gunshot wound.
The family of Davood Jalili visited the Baghe Rezvan morgue in Isfahan every day for a week to identify their son's body but were unable to find it during this time. Finally, after a week, Davood Jalili's body was handed over to the family. Davood Jalili was 34 years old and an employee of Azaran Foolad Isfahan Company.
