On 27 February 2024, new details emerged regarding the murder of Elias Mohammadi, a municipal street cleaner in Tehran. On 9 February 2024, while working with colleagues to clean an overpass on the Niayesh Expressway in Tehran, Mohammadi was thrown off the bridge by unknown individuals in a car and lost his life.
Reports indicate that Elias Mohammadi, who was suspiciously murdered on 9 February, had moved to Iran from a neighbouring country several years ago and worked in a fruit shop. He was also employed by the municipality, cleaning overpass walls at night and sleeping in a municipal cabin after his shift. Due to his lack of Iranian citizenship, he was not eligible for insurance benefits.
Following the murder of Elias Mohammadi, police forces were dispatched to the scene. An eyewitness, also a municipal worker, informed the officers that on the night of the incident, they were cleaning the overpass walls when a black Peugeot Pars suddenly stopped in front of them. The driver angrily exited the vehicle, attacked them, and without any warning, engaged in a scuffle with Mohammadi, throwing him off the bridge. Several vehicles subsequently ran over the body as they passed under the bridge.
The murder of this street cleaner prompted numerous reactions. The suspect, who was arrested on 17 February, stated that his motive was based on a mistaken belief that Mohammadi had insulted flags raised for the anniversary of 11 February.
Alireza Zakani, the Mayor of Tehran, responded to the incident by stating that the municipality is pursuing the rights of the deceased street cleaner. However, he noted that detailing the circumstances of Mohammadi's death is beyond their jurisdiction.
در تاریخ ۸ اسفند ۱۴۰۲، جزییات تازه ای از واقعه قتل الیاس محمدی، پاکبان شهرداری تهران، منتشر شده است. این پاکبان بامداد ۲۰ بهمن ۱۴۰۲ به همراه همکاران خود مشغول شست وشوی روگذر اتوبان نیایش در تهران بود که توسط سرنشینان ناشناس یک خودرو سواری به پایین پل پرتاب شد و جان خود را از دست داد.
گزارش ها حاکی از آن است که الیاس محمدی، پاکبانی که بامداد ۲۰ بهمن به طرز مشکوکی به قتل رسید، چند سالی بود که از یکی از کشورهای همسایه به ایران آمده و در یک مغازه میوه فروشی کار می کرد. او همچنین کارگر شهرداری بود و شب ها دیواره های روگذر اتوبان ها را نظافت می کرد و بعد از اتمام کارش در کانکس شهرداری می خوابید. به دلیل نداشتن تابعیت ایرانی، از حق بیمه محروم بود.
پس از به قتل رسیدن الیاس محمدی و اعزام نیروهای پلیس به محل وقوع حادثه، یکی از شاهدان عینی که او نیز از کارگران شهرداری است، به ماموران گفته بود که شب حادثه مشغول شستن و نظافت دیواره های روگذر اتوبان نیایش بودند که ناگهان یک خودروی پژو پرشیای مشکی مقابل شان توقف کرد. راننده با عصبانیت از خودرو پیاده شد و به سمت شان حمله کرد و بدون هیچ مقدمه ای با همکارش گلاویز شد و او را از بالای پل به پایین انداخت. سپس چند خودرو موقع عبور از زیر پل، جسد را زیر گرفتند.
ماجرای به قتل رسیدن این پاکبان واکنش های بسیاری را در پی داشت. متهم به قتل الیاس محمدی که در تاریخ ۲۸ بهمن بازداشت شد، انگیزه خود از این اقدام را بر پایه تصور اشتباه از اهانت پاکبان مذکور به پرچم های برافراشته شده برای سالگرد ۲۲ بهمن عنوان کرد.
علیرضا زاکانی، شهردار تهران، پس از به قتل رسیدن الیاس محمدی در واکنش به این حادثه اعلام کرده است که شهرداری پیگیر حق و حقوق پاکبان فوت شده است، اما بیان ابعاد و جزییات مرگ پاکبان از حوزه اختیارات آنها خارج است.
