چند روز بعد زمانی که از زندان آزاد شد یکم بهمن در محل کارش در پالایشگاه دچار ایست قلبی شد و جان باخت.
او ورزشکار حرفه ای داور درجه یک کشوری و رئیس هیئت بوکس پلدختر بود و به گفته نزدیکانش هیچ مشکل قلبی و زمینه ای نداشت به همین دلیل مرگش برای خانواده مشکوک است. نام او به عنوان کشته شده اعتراضات پیشتر منتشر شده است.
نیروهای امنیتی برادرش را وادار به مصاحبه تلویزیونی کردند که بگوید او بازداشت نشده است.
