Afsaneh Afzalnia was associated with the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran. She and her husband were students at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Tehran. Before the revolution, both were active in student union activities and participated in protests against the monarchy. At the time of their arrest, they had a six-month-old daughter.
Ms. Afzalnia was arrested and executed by firing squad in Tehran in December 1981. Details regarding her arrest and detention are not available. According to a fellow inmate, Ms. Afzalnia was severely tortured for information.

خانم افضل نیا در آذر ماه ۱۳٦٠ در تهران دستگیر و تیرباران شد. اطلاعی در مورد جزئیات دستگیری و بازداشت او در دست نیست. بنا به شهادت یکی از همسلولیهای خانم افضل نیا، وی برای گرفتن اطلاعات به شدت شکنجه شده بود.
