Matin Mollaie remains in detention at Adelabad Prison in Shiraz. The arrest occurred on 9 January 2026 during nationwide protests on Sattar Khan Street in Shiraz, and efforts to secure his release have so far been unsuccessful.
Reports indicate that his family was able to speak with him only once in a brief call during the early days of his detention, and there has been no contact between them since then.
The continued detention of Matin Mollaie without regular access to his family and lawyer has been cited as a violation of fair trial principles and Article 5 of the Iranian Code of Criminal Procedure. It has also been emphasised that his case should be handled in accordance with special juvenile justice procedures.
According to international standards, including the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the detention of individuals under 18 years of age should be a last resort and for the shortest possible time. The ongoing detention without transparency and judicial clarity has been described as a violation of international laws and a factor exacerbating psychological and social harm to the detainee and his family.
