Hosein Nik-Sarasht, a 34-year-old protester from Mashhad, was killed on 8 January 2026 when he went out into the street after hearing gunshots at home. He was struck by a bullet near his heart.
It has been reported that security forces are attempting to portray him as a "martyr" and "Basiji", despite his repeated expressions of support for public protests.
His wife was able to locate his body in Behesht Reza cemetery among hundreds of others after several days of searching. Initially, his nationality was recorded as "Afghan", but the family corrected this error by providing identification documents.

همسر او پس از چند روز جستجو توانست پیکر او را در میان صدها پیکر در بهشت رضوان پیدا کند. ابتدا ملیت او "افغانستانی" عنوان شده بود، اما خانواده با ارائه مدارک هویتی توانستند این اشتباه را اصلاح کنند.
