Mehdi Yarahi

According to reports, on 17 October 2023, Mehdi Yarahi, a singer and composer from Khuzestan Province, was released from Evin Prison on bail after undergoing interrogation and trial at Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Iran.

Mehdi Yarahi was tried on 16 October 2023 by a judge at Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court on various charges, including inciting corruption and prostitution and propaganda against the regime. His temporary detention order was converted to bail.

The case against Mehdi Yarahi was initiated following the release of a music video titled "Remove Your Scarf." He was arrested on 28 August 2023 after security forces raided his home, searched it, and confiscated some personal items. He was then transferred to Evin Prison and charged on 3 September 2023.

It has also been reported that on 9 January, Mehdi Yarahi was sentenced by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court to two years and eight months of imprisonment and 74 lashes. He had previously been accused of propaganda against the regime and inciting people to corruption.

According to the verdict issued by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, Yarahi was sentenced to a total of two years and eight months of imprisonment and 74 lashes. Based on Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, one year of the imprisonment is enforceable. Due to his physical condition, Yarahi's prison sentence was converted to house arrest with an ankle monitor. On 5 March 2025, the sentence of 74 lashes was carried out, and his case was closed. The execution of the 74 lashes in March 2025 prompted widespread reactions from artists and activists.
