بر اساس گزارش ها، در تاریخ 17 دی 1404، عرفان فرجی، اهل شهر ری، در جریان اعتراضات مردمی این شهر با شلیک مستقیم نیروهای حکومتی کشته شده است. گفته شده که عرفان فرجی با شلیک مستقیم سلاح جنگی جان باخته و پیکر او در میان جان باختگانی شناسایی شده که به کهریزک منتقل شده اند. همچنین گزارش شده که پیکر او با تأخیر به خانواده اش تحویل داده شده و بدون اطلاع رسانی عمومی به خاک سپرده شده است.
