On Thursday, January 8, 2026 (18 Dey 1404), Nasim Pouraghaei, a married mother of two children, was shot in the neck by gunfire from suppressive forces of the Islamic Republic in the Sadeghieh area of Tehran during the popular protests and died instantly.

Nasim was a mechanical engineer and mother of two children. She was killed in Sadeghiyeh, Ariashahr, Tehran. A source close to the family reported that Nasim's husband held her from behind when he realized he was only holding her jacket, and Nasim had fallen to the ground. He carried his wife's body for an hour and a half to prevent it from falling into the hands of security forces. Eventually, residents of a house sheltered him, and they moved the body to a garage. Two strangers took his car keys to bring the car to him. When the strangers brought the car, Nasim's husband wrapped her body in a sheet and took it with him.

Nasim Pouraghaei's cousin reported that on Thursday, January 8, 2026, she was with her husband at protests on Ashrafi Esfahani Street in Tehran, where she died from a gunshot wound to the head.

A source close to Nasim Pouraghaei stated that she was killed by government forces late at night when most protesters were returning home.

The suppressive forces shot her in the neck, killing her instantly.

Nasim's cousin mentioned that her husband was holding her to protect her, but suddenly felt his hand get wet and realized she had been shot when he saw her bleeding.

They sought help, but in the terrifying situation, their calls were unheard. Nasim's husband had to carry her body for an hour, exhausted, until he sat in an alley with her lifeless body in his arms. Two young men advised him not to sit there, warning that the authorities would take the body away.

The young men took Nasim's husband's car keys, promising to bring the car. A woman living in the alley opened her door and invited them in. While the young men fetched the car, the homeowner brought a sheet to wrap Nasim's cold body, and they transported her to Payambaran Hospital.

Nasim's body, like others killed in Tehran, was transferred to the Kahrizak forensic center. Her cousin said she was one of 6,000 people killed on January 8. On January 9, 2026, when families went to Kahrizak to claim the bodies, they stood in line, waiting for their numbers to be called. Nasim was the 400th name called.

Nasim Pouraghaei's cousin shared a photo of her gravestone, writing that her beautiful cousin stood for freedom on January 8 and was taken from us by the Islamic regime.

She continued, expressing that their hearts are broken by the injustice and cruelty. This pain will not be forgotten, and this blood will not go unanswered. They took her life, but not freedom. They silenced her voice, but not our anger. We promise to continue her path until the end of this darkness, until the fall of the Islamic regime and the birth of freedom. We continue this journey with broken hearts but unyielding determination. Woman, life, freedom.

Another relative of this young woman posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, stating that Nasim was not just a headline. She was someone's home, someone's joy, someone's entire world, and now she is gone.

Nasim Pouraghaei's cousin remarked that Iran is full of people like Nasim, who leave home with hope and never return. Then the internet is cut, and phone lines are blocked so that no one hears the cries, mourning, and truth, causing the truth to disappear. Even mourning must be done in silence.

A person close to Nasim Pouraghaei emphasized pride in what she did and urged the people of Iran, "Please do not forget Nasim."
