On 17 September 2022 (26 Shahrivar 1401) in Saqqez, Kurdistan Province, Iran, Kian Darakshan was reportedly struck by shotgun pellets during protest-related unrest. He was hit in the face and suffered severe injuries to both eyes as a result of the shooting. Following the incident, he required urgent medical treatment and was transferred for further care due to the seriousness of his injuries.
