On Thursday, September 14, 2023, Reza Mazaheri, a former political prisoner and social media activist residing in Tehran, was arrested by intelligence ministry agents and transferred to an unknown location. Previously, Mazaheri had been arrested for his peaceful online activities, sentenced to imprisonment after legal proceedings, and released in February 2023 following a judiciary directive.
A knowledgeable source reported that on Thursday, September 14, intelligence ministry agents raided his home, searched and seized some personal belongings, and arrested him, but his whereabouts remain unknown.
As of the time of this report, there is no information about Mazaheri's location or the legal basis for the new charges against him.
It is worth noting that Reza Mazaheri was arrested by security police agents in Tehran on December 29, 2018. After being transferred to Evin Prison and undergoing interrogation, he was charged during four interrogation sessions by Branch 2 of the Prosecutor's Office in District 33 of Tehran, presided over by Mohammad Nasripour, and released on bail of 100 million tomans on January 8, 2019.
During the trial proceedings, on April 15, 2019, Mazaheri was sentenced by Mohammad Moghiseh, the then-judge of Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, to two years of imprisonment and a fine of 4 million tomans for charges of "spreading falsehoods" and "propaganda against the regime."
This sentence was upheld in March 2020 by Branch 36 of the Tehran Province Court of Appeals.
On December 25, 2021, Mazaheri was arrested by security forces and, after being transferred to Evin Prison and undergoing interrogation in the security ward 209 of the Ministry of Intelligence, was charged with "spreading falsehoods" for a new case on January 11, 2022, by Branch 3 of the Prosecutor's Office in District 33 of Tehran. He was then sent to the quarantine ward of Evin Prison to serve his sentence from the first case.
In late February 2023, after Mazaheri's case was included in the judiciary's directive on "pardon and sentence reduction," this political prisoner was released, and his second case was closed.

روز جمعه ۲۴شهریور ماه ۱۴۰۲، ماموران وزارت اطلاعات در تهران، رضا مظاهری، را بازداشت کردند.
به گزارش حقوق بشر در ایران، روز پنجشنبه ۲۳ شهریور ماه ۱۴۰۲، رضا مظاهری، زندانی سیاسی پیشین و فعال فضای مجازی، ساکن تهران، توسط ماموران وزارت اطلاعات، بازداشت و به مکان نامعلومی منتقل شد. رضا مظاهری، پیشتر هم به سبب فعالیتهای مسالمت آمیز خود در فضای مجازی، بازداشت و پس از طی مراحل دادرسی به حبس محکوم و در بهمن ماه ۱۴۰۱، در پی اعمال بخشنامه قوه قضائیه آزاد شده بود.
به نقل از یک فرد مطلع در گفتگو با گزارشگر حقوق بشر در ایران:”روز پنجشنبه ۲۳ شهریور، ماموران وزارت اطلاعات با یورش به منزل وی و تفتیش و توقیف برخی لوازم شخصی وی را بازداشت کردند ولی از مکان نگهداری او اطلاعی در دست نیست.”
تا لحظه تنظیم این خبر، از مکان نگهداری و مصادیق حقوقی اتهامات جدید منتسب شده به رضا مظاهری، اطلاعی حاصل نشده است.
لازم به اشاره است، رضا مظاهری، در تاریخ ۸ دی ماه ۱۳۹۷، توسط ماموران پلیس امنیت در تهران بازداشت و پس از انتقال به زندان اوین و طی مراحل بازجوئی طی ۴ جلسه بازپرسی توسط شعبه ۲ بازپرسی دادسرای ناحیه ۳۳ تهران به ریاست محمد نصری پور، تفهیم اتهام و در تاریخ ۱۸ دی ماه ۱۳۹۷ با تودیع قرار وثیقه ای به مبلغ ۱۰۰ میلیون تومان آزاد شد.
با آغاز مراحل دادرسی، رضا مظاهری، در تاریخ ۲۶ فروردین ماه ۱۳۹۸، توسط محمد مقیسه ـ قاضی وقت شعبه ۲۸ دادگاه انقلاب تهران، از بابت اتهامات (نشر اکاذیب) و (فعالیت تبلیغی علیه نظام) به تحمل ۲ سال حبس تعزیری و پرداخت ۴ میلیون تومان جریمه نقدی محکوم شد.
این حکم پس از ارجاع پرونده به شعبه ۳۶ دادگاه تجدیدنظر استان تهران در اسفند ماه ۱۳۹۸، عیناً تائید شد.
رضا مظاهری، در تاریخ ۴ دی ماه ۱۴۰۰، توسط نیروهای امنیتی بازداشت و پس از انتقال به زندان اوین و طی مراحل بازجوئی در بند امنیتی ۲۰۹ وزارت اطلاعات از بابت پرونده ای جدید در تاریخ ۲۱ دی ماه ۱۴۰۰، به اتهام (نشر اکاذیب) توسط شعبه ۳ بازپرسی دادسرای ناحیه ۳۳ تهران تفهیم اتهام شد و سپس برای سپری کردن حبس تعزیری خود از بابت پرونده اول روانه بند قرنطینه زندان اوین شد.
اواخر بهمن ماه ۱۴۰۱، پس از مشمول شدن پرونده قضایی رضا مظاهری در بخشنامه (عفو و کاهش مجازات) قوه قضائیه، این زندانی سیاسی آزاد شد و پرونده دوم وی نیز مختومه اعلام گردید.
