Hamzeh Ahmadi Taraghi, a resident of Bojnord, was arrested during the protests in December and has been sentenced by the Revolutionary and Criminal Courts of this city in two separate cases. The total sentence includes 5 years and 7 months of imprisonment, 148 lashes, and one year of exile to the city of Zahak in Sistan and Baluchestan Province. Reports indicate that he was denied access to legal counsel throughout the interrogation and trial process.
On 22 April 2026, the second branch of the Revolutionary Court in Bojnord sentenced Hamzeh Ahmadi Taraghi to 7 months and 15 days of imprisonment and 74 lashes on charges of "propaganda against the regime." Additionally, a supplementary punishment of one year of compulsory residence in Zahak was issued.
In another case, on 16 May 2026, the 102nd branch of the Criminal Court Two in Bojnord sentenced Hamzeh Ahmadi Taraghi based on a report from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Intelligence Organization. He was sentenced to two years of imprisonment and 74 lashes for "show of force with a knife," two years of imprisonment for "insubordination to officers during duty," and one year of imprisonment for "disturbing public opinion and inciting violence in cyberspace."
According to the law on the aggregation of sentences, the most severe punishment, which is two years of imprisonment and 74 lashes, will be enforceable in this case. Combined with the Revolutionary Court case, this results in a total of 148 lashes and exile added to his sentence.
The official text of the verdict states "currently free with the introduction of a lawyer," but reports suggest that the judiciary did not allow him to have an independent lawyer, resulting in him losing the opportunity for a legal appeal.
Hamzeh Ahmadi Taraghi, who owns a small food shop in Bojnord, was arrested during the December protests when plainclothes armed forces raided his business without presenting a judicial warrant.
