علی عبیداوی و برادرش در حدود سال ۱۳۹۸ توسط نیروهای امنیتی بازداشت شدند. اتهام اصلی آن ها حمله به یک پایگاه نیروهای بسیج جمهوری اسلامی بود که هر دو برادر این اتهام را رد کرده اند. دادگاه آن ها در شعبه دادگاه انقلاب ماهشهر برگزار شد. در تاریخ ۴ بهمن ۱۴۰۲، علی عبیداوی به اعدام و ۴ سال زندان تعزیری محکوم شد و برادرش حسین به ۱۳ سال حبس محکوم گردید.

Ali Obaidavi and his brother were arrested by security forces around the year 2019. They were accused of attacking a base of the Basij forces of the Islamic Republic, an accusation both brothers denied. Their trial was held at the Revolutionary Court branch in Mahshahr. On 24 January 2024, Ali Obaidavi was sentenced to execution and four years of discretionary imprisonment, while his brother Hossein received a 13-year prison sentence.
