Morteza was walking on Meraj Street in Isfahan when he suddenly became separated from his wife. His wife noticed that Morteza had fallen to the ground and had been shot twice; one bullet hit his leg and another struck his chest. He remained alive until reaching Askerieh Hospital in Isfahan and showed signs of life for about half an hour in the hospital before passing away.
It has been reported that he owned a frame and mirror-making workshop. He had a stepson and two other children. His family made several visits to Bagh Rezvan to retrieve his body and were able to collect it and lay him to rest after four days.
مرتضی در خیابان معراج اصفهان در حال عبور بود که ناگهان از همسرش جدا شد. همسرش متوجه شد که مرتضی روی زمین افتاده و هدف دو گلوله قرار گرفته است؛ یک گلوله به پا و یک گلوله به قفسه سینه او اصابت کرده بود. او تا رسیدن به بیمارستان عسکریه اصفهان زنده بود و حدود نیم ساعت نیز در بیمارستان علائم حیات داشت اما سپس جان خود را از دست داد.
گزارش شده است که او یک کارگاه قاب و آینه سازی داشت. او یک پسرخوانده و دو فرزند دیگر داشت. خانواده او برای دریافت جسد بارها به باغ رضوان مراجعه کردند و پس از چهار روز توانستند جسد او را تحویل بگیرند و به خاک بسپارند.
