On the evening of 25 August 2024, Mohammad Mirmousavi was last seen alive when he was arrested by the police and taken to the Langarud station. A few days later, his body, showing signs of beating, was returned to his family. Reports indicate that actions such as issuing arrest warrants for five police officers and forming an investigative committee have been undertaken.
Mohammad Mirmousavi, a resident of Seyed Mahalleh village and a Snapp driver, was arrested by police officers during a confrontation. Images of his body, indicating severe torture and beating, were released. One of the images showed autopsy marks on his chest.
Human rights reports suggest that Mohammad's family was pressured not to publicise the matter before his body was returned. It has also been announced that temporary arrest warrants have been issued for five police officers.
Following the news of Mohammad Mirmousavi's death, several former political prisoners shared their experiences of beatings in police detention centres and called for changes within the institution.
In response to this incident, government and police officials ordered the formation of a special committee to investigate and report on the matter. Official news agencies reported that a delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Interior for Security and Law Enforcement arrived in Rasht, and a meeting of the Provincial Security Council was held with the presence of this delegation.
It has been reported that the bruises and signs of beating could be related to the altercation, and the date of Mohammad Mirmousavi's arrest has been confirmed as 22 August. It has also been confirmed that he showed no vital signs before arriving at the hospital.
