Born in Tehran, he was a close associate of Abolhassan Banisadr. He was married and a father of two; his second child was born after his execution. Asghar Laghaei worked in the private sector, specifically in the Tehran Bazaar. Both he and his father, Haj Hassan Laghaei, were nationalists and members of the Nation of Iran Party. Following the revolution, his friendship with Banisadr deepened to the point that, after the events of June 20, 1981 (30 Khordad 1360) and Banisadr's dismissal, Banisadr spent a day or two in hiding at Asghar Laghaei's home. He was executed by firing squad while still under the age of forty. His father, Haj Hassan Laghaei-a prominent and long-standing figure within the party-committed suicide upon hearing the news
