Samin Ehsani, a children's rights activist and member of the Children's Book Council, returned to the women's ward of Evin Prison to serve the remainder of her sentence after a five-day leave in early Nowruz 1402. Born in 1985 in Gorgan, she faced discrimination during her education due to her religious beliefs. After obtaining her diploma, she was denied higher education at Iranian universities and continued her studies at the Baha'i Institute for Higher Education.
Samin Ehsani worked as a children's facilitator and collaborated on the "Read with Me" project, which promotes reading among disadvantaged children. She translated and published two books in the field of children and adolescents.
In the summer of 2011, Samin Ehsani discovered her travel ban when visiting the passport office and was referred to the Evin Prosecutor's Office. On 17 August 2011, she was arrested at the Evin Prosecutor's Office and transferred to prison. After 29 days of temporary detention, she was released on bail. On 9 June 2012, the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced her to five years of imprisonment on charges of propaganda against the regime and actions against national security. This sentence was upheld in the appeals court.
Ten years after the sentence was announced, on 15 June 2022, Samin Ehsani was arrested without prior notice and transferred to Evin Prison. She requested to say goodbye to her daughter, but this was not permitted. After nine months, she was able to meet her daughter. Despite more than ten years passing without the sentence being executed, it was not subject to the statute of limitations, and Branch 36 of the Revolutionary Court upheld the five-year prison sentence. Samin Ehsani is currently serving this sentence in Evin Prison. Her imprisonment was converted to an open prison sentence on 22 May 2023.
