Ramin Ali Nia Tazeh Kand

The verdict for Ramin Ali Nia Tazeh Kand, an Azerbaijani activist and one of the detainees from the nationwide protests in 2022, has been upheld by the Tehran Provincial Court of Appeal. Initially, he was sentenced to six years in prison and faced social restrictions. Under Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, the most severe punishment, which is five years of imprisonment, will be enforceable.

The sentences against Ramin Ali Nia Tazeh Kand were confirmed by Branch 36 of the Tehran Provincial Court of Appeal. Previously, Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court had sentenced him to five years in prison for "assembly and collusion with the intent to act against national security" and one year for "propaganda activities against the Islamic Republic system." Additionally, as a supplementary punishment, he was sentenced to a two-year ban on membership in political parties, groups, and associations, as well as activities in cyberspace, media, and press, and was prohibited from leaving the country.

This individual was previously arrested by security forces in Ardabil on 8 November 2022 and was released on bail from Ardabil prison on 30 November 2022.
