Mohammad Abbasi

Mohammad Abbasi, who was detained during the nationwide protests in December 2025, was executed at Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj on 13 May 2026. He had been arrested during the December 2025 protests, and his death sentence was recently upheld by the Supreme Court.

It has been reported that officials at Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj requested Mohammad Abbasi's family to visit him. However, upon their arrival at the prison, the family was denied the opportunity to meet him. After leaving the prison, the family was informed via a phone call about the execution of Mohammad Abbasi.

The media centre of the judiciary announced that a court session was held to address the charges against several detained protesters. The primary defendant in this case was identified as a citizen named Mohammad Abbasi, who was accused of involvement in the death of a law enforcement officer named Shahin Dehghani during recent protests in Malard County. The court session addressing the charges against several detained citizens from the nationwide protests was held at the Tehran Revolutionary Court.

During this session, two detained protesters were tried. They were accused of playing a role in the killing of a law enforcement officer identified as Second Lieutenant Shahin Dehghani on 7 January 2026 at Arghavan Square in Malard County. The judge intensified the charges against both defendants by adding new allegations and stated that Mohammad Abbasi was accused of direct involvement and collaboration with foreign governments and hostile groups, leading to the killing of the police officer.

The defendants' lawyer, appointed by the judiciary, did not provide an effective defence for his clients during the session. At the end of the initial hearing, the judge announced that the next session would be scheduled later. Additionally, the judge ordered the release of images of the deceased officer's body in court. The report did not mention the identities of the other defendants or the charges against them.
