Mehdi Mohammadi Fard, a resident of Sari and one of those detained during the nationwide protests in 2022, has been released from Sari Central Prison after posting bail. Initially sentenced to capital punishment, his sentence was overturned by the Supreme Court and converted to imprisonment.
The release of Mehdi Mohammadi Fard on bail is pending the completion of his judicial proceedings. He is required to return to prison to serve the remainder of his sentence once the final verdict is issued.
On 18 May 2023, his death sentences were overturned by the Supreme Court, and the case was referred back to the Sari Revolutionary Court for further review. On 1 October 2023, he was sentenced to imprisonment on various charges.
In mid-January 2023, Mehdi Mohammadi Fard was sentenced to capital punishment on charges including waging war against God and corruption on earth, and to imprisonment on other charges. Following the issuance of the death sentence, Amnesty International called for the revocation of the sentence and the protection of his civil rights.
In May 2023, both death sentences were overturned by the Supreme Court, and the case was referred to a parallel court for reconsideration. In December 2023, he was released from prison after posting bail.
براساس گزارش ها، مهدی محمدی فرد، از بازداشت شدگان اعتراضات سراسری 1401 و ساکن ساری، پس از تودیع وثیقه از زندان مرکزی ساری آزاد شد. او ابتدا به اعدام محکوم شده بود، اما حکم وی در دیوان عالی کشور نقض و به حبس تعزیری تبدیل شد.
آزادی مهدی محمدی فرد با تودیع وثیقه و تا اتمام مراحل دادرسی به پرونده قضایی وی صورت گرفته است و پس از ابلاغ حکم قطعی باید برای ادامه حبس به زندان بازگردد.
در تاریخ 28 اردیبهشت 1402، احکام اعدام وی توسط دیوان عالی کشور نقض و پرونده برای بررسی مجدد به دادگاه انقلاب ساری ارجاع شد. در تاریخ 9 مهر 1402، او به اتهامات مختلف به حبس تعزیری محکوم شد.
در اواسط دی 1401، مهدی محمدی فرد به اتهامات مختلف از جمله محاربه و افساد فی الارض به اعدام و به اتهامات دیگر به حبس تعزیری محکوم شده بود. پس از صدور حکم اعدام، سازمان عفو بین الملل خواستار لغو حکم و رعایت حقوق شهروندی وی شد.
در اردیبهشت 1402، هر دو حکم اعدام توسط دیوان عالی نقض و پرونده برای رسیدگی مجدد به دادگاه هم عرض ارجاع گردید. در آذر 1402، او با تودیع وثیقه از زندان آزاد شد.
