به گفته نزدیکان این نوجوان «عباس در شامگاه ۲۰ دی ماه ۱۴۰۴ در ارتباط با اعتراضات مردمی آزادشهر در شهرستان ساری بازداشت و پس از انتقال به بازداشتگاه اطلاعات سپاه به مدت پنج روز تحت شکنجه شدید قرار گرفته است به گونه ای که وی در این مدت چهار بار بیهوش شده است.و هم اکنون در کانون اصلاح و تربیت گرگان نگهداری می شود.»
خانواده عباس برای گرفتن وکیل پیگیری های متعددی انجام داده اند اما تاکنون هیچ وکیلی حاضر به پذیرش پرونده او نشده است. به گفته این منابع عنوان شده که اتهام «لیدری اعتراضات» به وی نسبت داده شده و دستگاه قضایی نیز تاکنون پاسخ روشنی به خانواده درباره وضعیت پرونده ارائه نکرده است.
