Davoud Abdollahi

On 2 January 2024, Dawood Abdollahi, a Sunni citizen and prisoner of conscience, was executed at Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj. Reports indicate that the execution took place after 14 years of imprisonment in Rajai Shahr and Ghezel Hesar prisons, and his body was handed over to his family. On 26 December 2023, he had gone on a hunger strike in protest against his transfer to solitary confinement for the execution.

Dawood Abdollahi was tried by the Tehran Revolutionary Court in May 2019, after 10 years of uncertainty, on charges of acting against national security and was sentenced to death on 5 August 2019. This sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court on 3 February 2020.

The Sunni citizen was arrested on 8 February 2010 and transferred to solitary confinement at the Urmia Intelligence Office, where he was held for eight months. He was then moved to Evin Prison, spending six months in solitary confinement in wards 240 and 209. Subsequently, he was transferred to ward 350 of Evin Prison and later to Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj on 13 April 2012.

In 2015, Dawood Abdollahi, along with several other Sunni citizens, was tried on various charges and sentenced to death, but the sentence was overturned by the Supreme Court. In another case, some of his co-defendants received convictions on different charges.

Reports indicate that Dawood Abdollahi faced human rights violations since his arrest, including beatings and torture for confessions, as well as prolonged uncertainty in prison and court.
