Athena Farghadani, a cartoonist and children's rights activist, was summoned to Evin Court and detained on 7 June 2023. Following her arrest, she was transferred to Qarchak Prison in Varamin and was later released after a period of uncertainty upon posting bail.
In 2016, Farghadani had been imprisoned for creating critical drawings. Two years prior, she was arrested on charges of insulting leadership and meeting with the families of political prisoners and those killed during the Ashura protests in 2009. She was released from prison after two months.
Farghadani is scheduled to stand trial on 8 October 2023. The hearing regarding her charges will take place at 11:30 AM in Branch 1068 of the Tehran Criminal Court 2.
آتنا فرقدانی، کاریکاتوریست و فعال حقوق کودکان، در تاریخ 17 خرداد 1402 به دادسرای اوین احضار و بازداشت شد. پس از دستگیری، او به زندان قرچک ورامین منتقل گردید و پس از مدتی بلاتکلیفی با تودیع وثیقه یا کفالت آزاد شد.
آتنا فرقدانی در سال 1395 به دلیل کشیدن طرح های انتقادی در اوین زندانی شده بود. او دو سال پیش از آن نیز به اتهام توهین به رهبری و همچنین دیدار با خانواده های زندانیان سیاسی و خانواده های کشته شدگان عاشورای سال 1388 دستگیر و پس از دو ماه از زندان آزاد شده بود.
در تاریخ 16 مهر 1402، آتنا فرقدانی به محاکمه خواهد رفت. جلسه رسیدگی به اتهامات او در ساعت 11:30 صبح در شعبه 1068 دادگاه کیفری 2 تهران برگزار شد.
