Soha Mortezaie

On Wednesday, June 13, 2024, Soha Mortazai, former secretary of the Students' Trade Council of Tehran University, student activist and political prisoner imprisoned in Evin Prison, was released after serving 22 months of discretionary imprisonment.

In a conversation with a Human Rights reporter in Iran, a well-informed individual reported: "Soha Mortazai's freedom came after she had served 22 months of her discretionary imprisonment."

It should be noted that Soha Mortazai, in mid-November 2020, was sentenced by Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Abolghasem Salavati, on charges of assembly and collusion to disrupt national security, to serve 6 years of discretionary imprisonment. This sentence was reduced to 3 years and 8 months of discretionary imprisonment after an appeal was filed in the Tehran Provincial Court of Appeals and on November 21, 2022, while she was on her way to work in Tehran, she was arrested by police officers with an arrest warrant and transferred to Evin Prison to serve her discretionary prison term. She was later transferred to Gharchak Prison in Varamin but was returned to Evin Prison on April 30, 2023.

Soha Mortazai, on April 30, 2020, was sentenced by Branch 36 of the Tehran Provincial Court of Appeals, presided over by Ahmad Zargar, for her arrest during the protests in December 2017, to serve 1 year of discretionary imprisonment and 2 years of political, trade and media activity deprivation. This student activist was initially sentenced to 6 years of discretionary imprisonment by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court for charges of assembly and collusion and propaganda activities against the system.

This student activist, on November 17, 2019, on the nineteenth day of her protest sit-in at the Tehran University dormitory, was arrested by security officers and transferred to the security ward 209 of the Ministry of Intelligence and after the completion of the interrogation stages, she was transferred to the general ward of Evin Prison. On January 8, 2020, after Soha Mortazai's case was referred to Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, her trial was held on September 9, 2020, and this student activist, along with her defense lawyer, presented their defenses to the court and on January 22, 2020, she was released on bail of 500 million Tomans.

Mortazai, on January 6, 2018, along with a group of students and student trade activists, was arrested and transferred to Evin Prison. After undergoing the stages of interrogation and charge explanation, she was released from Evin Prison on bail.
