On Thursday, July 4, 2024, Seyed Mohammad Mojtaba Taghavi, born in 1967, a graduate in graphic design from the University of Tehran, a political activist, and a former political prisoner from the 1980s, remains in Evin Prison, deprived of his civil rights despite a hearing held by Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran. This political activist has been in temporary detention since February 23, 2024.
A knowledgeable source reported that the case against Seyed Mohammad Mojtaba Taghavi is based on his dissenting views. Since his arrest, during interrogation and preliminary hearings, he has been denied access to legal counsel. Even during the hearing held on July 1 of this year at Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, he was transferred to the security ward 209 of the Ministry of Intelligence located in Evin Prison due to his refusal to wear prison clothes and attend the hearing, as requested by the prosecutor's representative and ordered by Judge Afshari. He is currently held in shared rooms.
It is noteworthy that Seyed Mohammad Mojtaba Taghavi was arrested on February 23, 2024, in the city of Chaldoran, West Azerbaijan Province, by security forces. After being transferred to Maku Prison and undergoing initial interrogations, he was moved to Tehran and the security ward 209 of the Ministry of Intelligence located in Evin Prison for further interrogation and case formation. During this time, he was subjected to various physical, mental, and psychological pressures, and his case was referred to the investigative branch at the District 33 Prosecutor's Office in Tehran.
During the interrogation process, Seyed Mohammad Mojtaba Taghavi was charged by Investigator Alizadeh, head of Branch 5 of the District 33 Prosecutor's Office in Tehran, with "propaganda against the regime" and "membership in groups intending to disrupt national security." His case was then referred to Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran for a trial date to be set.
On June 24, 2024, the first hearing on the charges against Seyed Mohammad Mojtaba Taghavi was held by Judge Iman Afshari, head of Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran. However, due to the defendant's refusal to wear prison clothes, he was not sent to that hearing.
Previously, in the 1980s, Seyed Mohammad Taghavi was also arrested by the Ministry of Intelligence due to his political dissent and was sentenced by the Revolutionary Court to imprisonment. He was ultimately released after serving his sentence.
On Saturday, November 30, 2024, according to the verdict issued by Judge Iman Afshari, which was communicated to the lawyers and the defendant in Evin Prison, Seyed Mohammad Taghavi Sang Dehi, as the second defendant in this case, was sentenced to death for "acting against national security through rebellion," five years of imprisonment for "assembly and collusion to disrupt national security," and ten years of imprisonment for "forming a group intending to disrupt national security."

به گزارش حقوق بشر در ایران در پنجشنبه ۱۴ تیر ماه ۱۴۰۳، سید محمد مجتبی تقوی، متولد: ۱۳۴۶، دانش آموخته رشته گرافیک و طراحی از دانشگاه تهران، فعال سیاسی و از زندانیان سیاسی پیشین دهه ۶۰ خورشیدی، علیرغم برگزاری یک جلسه دادرسی از سوی شعبه ۲۶دادگاه انقلاب تهران، در پی محرومیت از حقوق شهروندی خود در زندان اوین بسر می برد. این فعال سیاسی از تاریخ ۴ اسقند ماه ۱۴۰۲، تحت قرار بازداشت موقت بسر می برد.
به نقل از یک فرد مطلع در گفتگو با گزارشگر حقوق بشر در ایران:”مبنی تشکیل این پرونده بر علیه سید محمد مجتبی تقوی، دگراندیشی وی است و از زمان بازداشت، در دوران بازجویی۷ بازپرسی و حتی در مرحله دادرسی اولیه خودذاز حق دسترسی به وکیل محروم بوده و حتی در جلسه دادرسی که در تاریخ ۱۱ تیر ماه سال جاری در شعبه ۲۶دادگاه انقلاب تهران، برگزار شد با درخواست نماینده دادستان و دستور قاضی افشاری به علت مخالفت این محمد مجتبی تقوی، از پوشیدن لباس و عدم حضور در جلسه دادرسی بند امنیتی ۲۰۹ وزارت اطلاعات واقع در زندان اوین منتقل شد و در حال حاضر در اتاق های چند نفری بسر می برد.”
لازم به اشاره است، سید محمد مجتبی تقوی، در تاریخ ۴ اسفند ماه ۱۴۰۲، در شهرستان چالدران از توابع استان آذربایجان غربی، توسط نیروهای امنیتی، دستگیر و و پس از انتقال به زندان شهرستان ماکو و طی مراحل بازجویی های اولیه در پی مکاتبه ماموران با وزارت اطلاعات برای بازجویی و تشکیل پرونده به تهران و بند امنیتی ۲۰۹ وزارت اطلاعات واقع در زندان اوین منتقل شد و در حالی که تحت انواع فشارهای فیزیکی، روحی و روانی قرار گرفت پرونده وی به شعبه بازپرسی در دادسرای ناحیه ۳۳ تهران ارجاع شد.
با آغاز مراحل بازپرسی، سید محمد مجتبی تقوی، توسط بازپرس علیزاده ـ رئیس شعبه ۵ دادسرای ناحیه ۳۳ تهران، از بابت اتهاماتی از قبیل «فعالیت تبلیغی علیه نظام» و «عضویت در گروه و دسته باغی به قصد برهم زدن امنیت کشور» تفهیم اتهام و پرونده وی برای تعیین زمان دادرسی به شعبه ۲۶دادگاه انقلاب تهران، ارجاع شد.
در تاریخ ۴ تیر ماه ۱۴۰۳، جلسه اول دادرسی به اتهامات سید محمد مجتبی تقوی، توسط قاضی ایمان افشاری ـ رئیس شعبه ۲۶دادگاه انقلاب تهران، برگزار شده بود اما در پی امتناع این متهم از پوشیدن لباس به آن جلسه دادرسی اعزام نشد.
سید محمد تقوی، پیشتر هم در دهه ۶۰ خورشیدی به سبب دگراندیشی سیاسی، از سوی وزارت اطلاعات، دستگیر و توسط دادگاه انقلاب، به تحمل حبس تعزیری محکوم و در نهایت پس از اتمام دوران حبس خود آزاد شده بود.
به گزارش حقوق بشر در ایران شنبه ۱۰ آذر ماه ۱۴۰۳، براساس دادنامه صادره توسط قاضی ایمان افشاری که به وکلا و متهم این پرونده در زندان اوین ابلاغ شد:”سیدمحمدتقوی سنگ دهی ـ بعنوان متهم ردیف دوم این پرونده، از بابت اتهام «اقدام علیه امنیت از طریق بغی» به اعدام، به اتهام «اجتماع و تبانی به قصد برهم زدن امنیت کشور» به تحمل ۵ سال حبس تعزیری و به اتهام «تشکیل گروه و دسته به قصد برهم زدن امنیت کشور» به تحمل ۱۰ سال حبس تعزیری محکوم شد.
