Sara Broumand

Reports indicate that on 9 January 2026, Sara Broomand was returning home with her mother from a clinic when they were pursued by a motorbike officer from the special unit. The officer fired a pellet gun at her head and neck from a distance of approximately five metres, resulting in her death. She passed away in her mother's arms.

Sara was studying law and was an artist, nearing the completion of her studies. On 19 February 2026, her friends and family lit candles at the location where she was killed to honour her memory.

On the night of the incident, Sara and her mother were searching for medication in the city when they reached Nasr Boulevard and encountered a protest gathering. At this point, special unit forces intervened and began shooting. Sara ran towards a bus station and was targeted by one of the motorbike officers from the special unit.

After the shooting, Sara was taken to a clinic and then to a hospital, but efforts to save her were unsuccessful. Her body remained in the hospital morgue for five days, and her family faced difficulties in obtaining her body and burial permit.

Eventually, Sara's body was buried on 14 January 2026. Security forces did not permit her burial in Shiraz and Marvdasht, and she was laid to rest in the village of Dodaj Daryan.

Sara's case was initially handled by the security crimes court and later transferred to the military court. However, no decision has been issued so far.

Security forces continue to be present at Sara's gravesite, with reports indicating that they have been tasked by the Revolutionary Guard Corps to monitor her grave.

University professors, classmates, and Sara's close ones have attended various ceremonies from the time of her death until the fortieth day, remembering her as a hardworking and kind individual.
