Masoud Hashemzadeh, a young artist and athlete, passed away on 20 June 2009 in Tehran during protests against the presidential election results. He was reportedly shot by security forces. Masoud was a professional player of the santur and harmonica, with interests in painting and cinema.
On the day of the incident, Masoud left his home around 6 PM to meet a friend. According to eyewitnesses, in Mostanieh Street near Shadman Street, while protesters were unarmed, a security officer allegedly knelt and aimed a weapon, possibly a Kalashnikov, and fired at him. The bullet entered his chest and exited through his back. Masoud died before reaching the clinic. The death certificate cited the cause of death as "a bullet to the heart and perforation of the lung."
To prevent the body from being seized by security agencies, the family transported it overnight by private vehicle to his hometown of Valiabad, Gilan. However, the following morning, officers reportedly stormed the village mosque, arrested Masoud's brother, and transferred the body to the Rasht forensic office. The release of the body was conditioned on the family's commitment to not holding a public ceremony, limiting attendance to a maximum of five people, and mourning silently. Even after the burial, officers collected all funeral announcements and forced the family to leave the village quickly.
The grief over Masoud's death and subsequent pressures led to the passing of his father, who died in September 2011. He was buried next to his son's grave.
مسعود هاشم زاده جوان هنرمند و ورزشکاری بود که در ۳۰ خرداد ۱۳۸۸، در جریان اعتراضات به نتایج انتخابات ریاست جمهوری، با شلیک مستقیم نیروهای امنیتی در تهران جان باخت.
او که نوازنده حرفه ای سنتور و سازدهنی بود و به نقاشی و سینما علاقه داشت.
مسعود حوالی ساعت ۱۸ برای دیدار با دوستش از خانه خارج شد. طبق شهادت شاهدان عینی، در خیابان مستعانیه (حوالی خیابان شادمان)، در حالی که معترضان غیرمسلح بودند، یکی از نیروهای امنیتی با زانو زدن و نشانه رفتن اسلحه جنگی، به سمت او شلیک کرد. گلوله از قفسه سینه وارد و از پشت خارج شد. مسعود پیش از رسیدن به درمانگاه جان سپرد. در گواهی فوت، علت مرگ «اصابت گلوله به قلب و سوراخ شدن ریه» ذکر شد.
خانواده برای جلوگیری از مصادره پیکر توسط نهادهای امنیتی، آن را شبانه با خودروی شخصی به روستای زادگاهش (ولی آباد گیلان) منتقل کردند. اما ماموران صبح روز بعد به مسجد روستا هجوم برده، برادر مسعود را بازداشت و پیکر را به پزشکی قانونی رشت منتقل کردند.
تحویل پیکر مشروط به تعهد خانواده برای عدم برگزاری مراسم عمومی، حضور حداکثر ۵ نفر و سوگواری بی صدا شد. ماموران حتی پس از خاکسپاری، تمام اعلامیه های ترحیم را جمع آوری کرده و خانواده را مجبور به ترک سریع روستا کردند.
داغ مسعود و فشارهای پس از آن، به مرگ پدرش نیز ختم شد. پدر مسعود در شهریور ۱۳۹۰ درگذشت. او در کنار مزار پسرش به خاک سپرده شد.
