Pezhman Soltani

Pezhman Soltani (born 1991) is a citizen of Bukan, Iran, who was arrested for assisting injured protesters during the 2022 nationwide protests. He was subsequently sentenced to death on three separate counts on charges including "ordering the murder of a security force member," "enmity against God (moharebeh)," "armed rebellion (baghi)," "assembly and collusion against national security," "financing terrorism," "propaganda against the state," and "espionage and collaboration with hostile states."

On 15 April 2023, Pezhman Soltani was arrested, along with several other citizens, by forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Intelligence Organization for participating in the popular protests in Bukan. He was subsequently transferred to a security detention facility in Urmia. Soltani was held in solitary confinement for several months without the right to family visits or access to legal counsel. During this period, he was reportedly subjected to torture in order to extract forced confessions before being transferred to Urmia Central Prison.

His family's bank accounts were also frozen to prevent them from raising diyah (blood money) to compensate the family of a security force member who was killed during the 2022 protests in Bukan. This measure effectively prevented them from seeking the family's pardon, as one of the three death sentences against Soltani was related to the killing of that security force member.

In October–November 2025 (Aban 1404), the Supreme Court of Iran overturned his death sentence and referred the case to a parallel court for retrial.
