Akbar Mohammadi (June 29, 1969 – August 28, 2006) was a student activist who was arrested and imprisoned in Tehran following the student protests of July 1999. He died in Evin Prison on August 28, 2006 after a hunger strike for several days.
In 1999, Akbar Mohammadi was arrested along with his brother and a number of other students during the student protests in the Tehran University Quarter and sentenced to death by the Special Revolutionary Court. However, his sentence was reduced to 15 years in prison, consisting of 10 years in prison and five years suspended. He was rearrested without a new sentence and transferred to Evin Prison, a move that he and his family protested.
In protest of his re-arrest and the cessation of treatment, he went on an indefinite hunger strike in Evin Prison. It is reported that as his condition deteriorated and he was transferred to the prison’s health care unit, prison officials took action, and he eventually died suspiciously. His lawyer, citing other prisoners, stated that Mohammadi had been beaten repeatedly in the days before his death, and that signs of torture were visible on his body.
His body was buried at night in a village near the city of Amol called Cheng Mian, under heavy security guard and without the presence of his family members.
اکبر محمدی (9 خرداد 1348 – 8 مرداد 1385) یکی از فعالان دانشجویی بود که در پی اعتراضات دانشجویی تیر 1378 در تهران دستگیر و زندانی شد. او در 8 مرداد 1385 پس از چند روز اعتصاب غذای خشک در زندان اوین درگذشت.
در سال 1378، اکبر محمدی به همراه برادرش و تعدادی از دانشجویان در اعتراضات دانشجویی کوی دانشگاه تهران دستگیر و در دادگاه ویژه انقلاب به اعدام محکوم شد. اما حکم او به 15 سال حبس تقلیل یافت که شامل 10 سال زندان و پنج سال حبس تعلیقی بود. او بدون حکم جدیدی دوباره دستگیر و به زندان اوین منتقل شد که این اقدام با اعتراض او و خانواده اش مواجه شد.
در اعتراض به دستگیری مجدد و توقف درمان، او اقدام به اعتصاب غذای نامحدود در زندان اوین کرد. گزارش شده است که با وخیم شدن وضعیت او و انتقال به بخش بهداری زندان، مأمورین زندان اقداماتی انجام دادند و در نهایت او به طور مشکوکی فوت کرد. وکیل مدافع او از قول زندانیان دیگر اعلام کرده بود که محمدی در طول چند روز پیش از مرگ، بارها مورد ضرب و شتم قرار گرفته بود و آثار شکنجه بر بدن او نمایان بوده است.
پیکر او شبانه در روستایی در اطراف شهر آمل به نام چنگ میان تحت مراقبت های شدید امنیتی و بدون حضور اعضای خانواده اش دفن شد.
