On the evening of Friday, January 8, 2026, the second night of internet and communication blackouts, protesters once again took to the streets in various cities, including Tehran. The crackdown on Friday night was more violent than the previous night, Thursday, January 7. The armed forces of the Islamic Republic, including the Revolutionary Guards, targeted and killed protesters with heavy weaponry from the beginning of the gatherings. Setayesh was one of those killed that night.
Setayesh, along with some friends, had come out to the streets near their residence in "Khorasan Square" in Tehran. The atmosphere was smoky and tense. The sound of gunfire mixed with shouts and slogans. Nearby, a teenage boy was shot and fell to the ground. He was said to be 12 or 13 years old. The boy was killed on the spot.
Concerned for the child, Setayesh told her friends to ensure the boy's body wasn't trampled and separated from them, running toward the boy. She intended to move his body back. As soon as she reached the boy's body, Setayesh was shot in the leg. Simultaneously, tear gas was fired into the crowd. Setayesh got up, but a second bullet hit her back, causing her to fall and die.
Her friends and the crowd dispersed. After a few hours, when the tension subsided, they returned to the location to find Setayesh. There was no sign of Setayesh's body or the boy's. The bodies had been taken away.
Setayesh was in love. She had recently gotten engaged on Yalda Night. Her fiancé, along with friends, searched the city for any trace of her, checking hospitals and any place they could think of. Finally, around 4 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, the medical staff at one hospital informed them that they had a deceased person matching her description. Setayesh's fiancé was taken to identify her body.
Setayesh was identified in the hospital, her face pale and white, indicating severe blood loss. She had been shot twice in the back of the head with military bullets.
Now, the presence of her fiancé and friends was not enough to claim Setayesh's body. Her family needed to be present, but Setayesh had no family. Her friends contacted her legal guardian at the Welfare Organization. A few hours later, Setayesh's body was sent to the "Kahrizak" Forensic Medicine Center. By noon, her body was handed over to her legal guardian without any payment.
The legal guardian filed a complaint when receiving Setayesh's body.
Setayesh's body was taken to "Behesht Zahra" cemetery in Tehran. However, due to the large crowd, her burial was postponed to the next day. Setayesh Shafiei was buried in "Behesht Zahra" on Sunday, January 10. No money was taken for her grave.
Setayesh was a member of the basketball team in Tehran's District 6 and played at a club under the supervision of the Ministry of Education. After turning 18, like other adolescents under welfare care, she became independent. With the help of civil organizations, she managed to rent a home for herself in the "Navab" area of Tehran. This fall, she moved to "Khorasan Square," where she was killed.
To earn a living, Setayesh worked in a store. However, she always maintained connections with the civil organizations that supported her and was active in various events.
One of Setayesh's continuous activities was judging the "Mehr Book Award." This award, initiated by the "Mehr Taha" Institute and several other organizations caring for orphaned and disadvantaged children, involves children and teenagers from these institutions reading and judging newly published books from children's and young adult publishers. Setayesh was one of the active judges in various editions of the Mehr Book Award.
Setayesh was preparing for the university entrance exam. She wanted to study and attend university. In her new residence, she had set up and decorated a library.
Her friends described her as "wildly free." She was a rebellious young woman who boldly broke the rules of her environment, as if she was judging her own life. She was very kind, always willing to help. She wrote and had a Telegram channel named "The Girl Who Was the Sun," where she penned everything she felt but didn't express aloud.
After Setayesh's body was returned, her phone was also handed over to her legal guardian at the Welfare Organization. Although the Telegram channel is still being updated, no one knows who has access to it after Setayesh's death.
What led Setayesh to the Welfare Organization?
Setayesh was three years old when her father left her at an orphanage and disappeared. It is said that she had vague memories of her father. From the age of three to five, Setayesh grew up in welfare care until a family of Ministry of Oil employees adopted her. However, they returned her.
From the age of five to eight, Setayesh lived with her new family. She had a good life, was cared for, traveled, and perhaps lived her dreams in her childish imagination. But everything fell apart. Her foster father's divorce and remarriage led to Setayesh being abandoned again. She was less than nine years old when she was returned to welfare in poor condition. Setayesh developed a stutter, her teeth were damaged, and there was a wound on the corner of her mouth.
The new family found a legal loophole in the adoption law to annul the agreement.
When Setayesh turned 12, her foster family reappeared to seek her forgiveness. With guidance from her legal guardian and welfare social workers, she established a managed relationship with them. Sometimes she stayed at the welfare center, and sometimes at a house where they reportedly had a room for her.
This arrangement continued until Setayesh was 20, until the evening of Friday, January 8, when the order to fire was given, and Setayesh and thousands of protesters were killed by fully armed forces.
A ceremony was held for Setayesh at one of the welfare-supported institutions, attended by children, teenagers, their legal guardians, and those among whom Setayesh had grown up.

شامگاه جمعه ۱۹دی۱۴۰۴ دومین شب قطعی اینترنت و ارتباطات معترضان باز هم در خیابان های شهرهای مختلف از جمله تهران حضور دارند. سرکوب در جمعه شب ابعاد خشونت بارتری نسبت به شب قبل پنج شنبه ۱۸دی پیدا کرده است. نیروهای مسلح جمهوری اسلامی از جمله سپاه پاسداران از ابتدای شکل گیری تجمعات اعتراضی معترضان را هدف گلوله های سلاح های سنگین قرار دادند و کشتند. ستایش یکی از کشته های همان شب است.
ستایش با تعدادی از دوستانش در حوالی محل سکونت شان یعنی «میدان خراسان» تهران به خیابان آمده بود. فضا پردود و ملتهب بود. صدای تیراندازی با فریاد و شعار درهم آمیخته بود. در نزدیکی ستایش و دوستش یک پسر نوجوان تیر خورد و به زمین افتاد. می گویند ۱۲ یا ۱۳ ساله بود. آن پسر نوجوان همان جا کشته شد.
ستایش با نگرانی برای آن کودک به دوستانش می گوید که مبادا پیکر آن بچه زیر دست وپا له شود از آن ها جدا می شود و به سمت پسربچه می دود. می خواست پیکر او را به عقب بیاورد. به محض رسیدن به پیکر آن نوجوان پای ستایش را هدف شلیک قرار دادند. همزمان گاز اشک آور به میان آن تجمع شلیک شد. ستایش بلند می شود تا برمی خیزد گلوله دوم به کمرش اصابت می کند ستایش به زمین می افتد و جان می دهد.
دوستانش و آن تجمع پراکنده شدند. بعد از ساعتی که التهاب می خوابد به دنبال ستایش به همان محل بازمی گردند. نه از پیکر ستایش خبری بود و نه از آن پسربچه. پیکرها را برده بودند.
ستایش عاشق بود. شب یلدایی که گذشت نامزد کرده بود. نامزد ستایش به همراه دوستانش برای پیدا کردن اثری از او در شهر به راه می افتند از بیمارستان تا هر مرجعی را که به ذهن شان می رسید گشتند تا بالاخره حوالی ساعت ۴ بامداد شنبه ۲۰دی کادر درمان یکی از بیمارستان ها به آن ها می گوید با مشخصاتی که می دهند یک نفر فوتی دارند. نامزد ستایش را برای شناسایی پیکر بالای سر ستایش می برند.
صورت ستایش رنگ پریده و سفید که نشان از شدت خونریزی داشت در بیمارستان شناسایی می شود. از پشت سر به او دو تیر جنگی شلیک شده بود.
حالا دیگر برای تحویل پیکر ستایش حضور نامزد و دوستانش کفایت نمی کرد. خانواده باید حاضر می شد. و ستایش هم خانواده ای نداشت. دوستان ستایش با سرپرست حقوقی او در سازمان بهزیستی تماس می گیرند. ساعتی بعد پیکر ستایش را به مرکز پزشکی قانونی «کهریزک» می فرستند. تا قبل از ظهر پیکرش بدون دریافت پول تحویل سرپرست حقوقی اش داده می شود.
سرپرست حقوقی ستایش هنگام دریافت پیکر او شکایت خود را هم ثبت کرد.
پیکر ستایش را به «بهشت زهرا» تهران می برند. اما آن قدر جمعیت زیاد بود که خاکسپاری اش به روز بعد موکول می شود. ستایش شفیعی یک شنبه ۲۱دی در «بهشت زهرا» تهران به خاک سپرده شد. برای مزار ستایش هم پولی دریافت نشد.
ستایش؛ دختری که خورشید بود
ستایش عضو تیم بسکتبال منطقه ۶ تهران بود و در باشگاهی تحت نظر آموزش وپرورش بازی می کرد. بعد از ۱۸سالگی که مثل دیگر نوجوانان وابسته به بهزیستی پوشش نهادها از روی آن ها برداشته می شود مستقل شد. توانست با کمک سازمان های مدنی خانه ای برای خودش در منطقه «نواب» تهران اجاره کند. پاییز امسال محل زندگی اش را تغییر داد و در «میدان خراسان» ساکن شد. همان جا هم او را کشتند.
ستایش برای کسب درآمد در فروشگاه فروشندگی می کرد. اما همواره با نهادهای مدنی که زیر پوشش آن ها بود ارتباط داشت و در مناسبت های مختلف فعال بود.
یکی از فعالیت های مستمر ستایش داوری «جایزه کتاب مهر» بود. جایزه کتاب مهر به ابتکار موسسه «مهر طه» با مشارکت چند موسسه دیگر که از کودکان بی سرپرست و بدسرپرست نگهداری می کنند برگزار می شود. در این برنامه کودکان و نوجوانان موسسه ها کتاب های تازه منتشرشده از ناشران کودک و نوجوان را خوانده و داوری می کنند. ستایش یکی از داوران فعال در دوره های مختلف جایزه کتاب مهر بود.
ستایش خودش را برای کنکور آماده می کرد. می خواست درس بخواند و به دانشگاه برود. در محل سکونت جدیدش کتابخانه ای برپا و آن را تزیین کرده بود.
دوستانش در توصیف ستایش می گوید که «به شکل دیوانه واری رها بود.» دختر جوانی که سرکش بود و قوانین حاکم بر محیطش را بی محابا می شکست و انگار که زندگی خودش را هم داوری می کرد. بسیار مهربان بود. دست یاری داشت. قلم به دست بود و می نوشت. در تلگرام کانالی داشت به نام «دختری که خورشید بود» و هر آن چه در دل داشت و بازگو نمی کرد به رشته تحریر درمی آورد.
بعد از تحویل پیکر ستایش گوشی تلفن او هم به سرپرست حقوقی اش در سازمان بهزیستی تحویل داده شد. اگرچه هنوز این کانال تلگرام به روز می شود اما کسی نمی داند که چه کسی پس از قتل ستایش به کانال او دسترسی دارد.
چه شد که ستایش سر از بهزیستی درآورد؟
ستایش سه ساله بود که پدرش او را مقابل شیرخوارگاه رها کرد و رفت. می گویند که تصویرهای محوی از پدرش به یاد داشت. از سه سالگی تا پنج سالگی ستایش در بهزیستی بزرگ شد تا خانواده ای از کارمندان وزارت نفت او را به سرپرستی گرفت. اما ستایش را پس آوردند.
ستایش از پنج تا هشت سالگی با خانواده جدید زندگی می کرد. زندگی خوبی داشت. به او می رسیدند سفر می رفت و شاید در خیال های کودکانه اش رویاهایش را زندگی می کرد. اما همه چیز از بین رفت. طلاق و ازدواج مجدد پدرخوانده اش باعث شد که ستایش دوباره رها شود. کم تر از نه ساله شده بود که او را با وضعیتی وخیم به بهزیستی بازگرداندند. ستایش لکنت پیدا کرده بود دندان هایش خراب شده بود و گوشه لبش هم زخم بود.
خانواده جدید با استناد به مفاد قانون فرزندخواندگی بهانه ای برای فسخ قرارداد پیدا کرده بودند.
ستایش ۱۲ ساله شده بود که دوباره خانواده پدرخوانده اش پیدایشان شد تا از او حلالیت بطلبند. ستایش با راهنمایی سرپرست حقوقی اش و مددکاران بهزیستی رابطه ای مدیریت شده با آن ها برقرار کرد. هر از گاهی در بهزیستی بود و هر از گاهی در خانه ای که می گویند اتاقی برایش در نظر گرفته بودند.
این روند تا ۲۰سالگی ستایش ادامه داشت. تا شامگاه جمعه ۱۹دی که خامنه ای دستور تیر داد و ستایش و هزاران معترض را نیروهایی سراپا مسلح کشتند.
برای ستایش در یکی از موسسه های تحت پوشش بهزیستی مراسمی گرفته شد با حضور کودکان و نوجوانان سرپرستان حقوقی آن ها و جمعی که ستایش در میان شان بیست ساله شده بود.
