On April 19, 2025, Mehran Arzhang Mofrad, a resident of Mashhad in Khorasan Razavi province, was sentenced to a total of four years in prison by Judge Gholam Soleimani and Advisor Mehdi Tavanai in Branch 36 of the Appeals Court of that province. The execution of this sentence has been suspended for four years.
According to the verdict issued on April 14, 2025, Mehran Arzhang Mofrad was sentenced to three years in prison for "membership in groups opposing the regime with the intent to disrupt national security" and to an additional one year and eight months for "propaganda activities against the regime."
Furthermore, under Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, the most severe punishment, which is three years of imprisonment, was deemed necessary to be carried out. However, due to the application of Article 47 of the Criminal Procedure Code, the execution of this sentence has been suspended for four years.
This case was initiated following Mehran Arzhang Mofrad's activities on social media and his membership in the "Freedom Movement" group, based on a complaint by the General Directorate of Intelligence of Khorasan Razavi province, supported by evidence found on his mobile phone.

به گزارش حقوق بشر در ایران به تاریخ ۳۰ فروردین ماه ۱۴۰۴، طی روزهای اخیر، مهران ارژنگ مفرد، ساکن شهر مشهد استان خراسان رضوی، توسط قاضی غلام سلیمانی و مستشار مهدی توانائی در شعبه ۳۶ دادگاه تجدیدنظر آن استان، در مجموع به تحمل ۴ سال حبس محکوم شد. اجرای این حکم برای مدت ۴ سال تعلیق شده است.
براساس دادنامه صادره در تاریخ ۲۵ فروردین ماه ۱۴۰۴؛ مهران ارژنگ مفرد، از بابت اتهام «عضویت در گروههای معاند نظام به قصد برهم زدن امنیت کشور» به تحمل ۳ سال حبس و به اتهام «فعالیت تبلیغی علیه نظام» هم به تحمل ۱ سال و ۸ ماه حبس تعزیری محکوم شده است.
همچنین، با توجه به اعمال ماده ۱۳۴ قانون مجازات اسلامی، مجازات اشد یعنی تحمل ۳ سال حبس تعزیری لازم به اجرا شده ولی در پی اعمال ماده ۴۷ قانون آئین دادرسی کیفری، اجرای این حکم به مدت ۴ سال تعلیق شده است.
لازم به ذکر است، این پرونده، در پی فعالیت مهران ارظزنگ مفرد، در فضای مجازی و عضویت وی گروه «نهضت آزادی»، با استناد به شکایت اداره کل اطلاعات استان خراسان رضوی بر طبق مستندات موجود در گوشی تلفن همراه این شهروند، بر علیه تشکیل شده است.
