Pedram Mousavi, born in 1972 and deceased in 2020, was a full professor of electrical engineering at the University of Alberta and a globally recognised scientist. He was a symbol of determination, humility, and Iranian ingenuity. An outstanding alumnus of Alborz High School and Iran University of Science and Technology, he migrated to Canada for further studies. Despite the challenges of living abroad before the digital era, he secured academic positions at the University of Manitoba and the University of Waterloo. Pedram was not only a pioneering inventor with numerous patents, including satellite smart antennas, and over 170 international articles, but he was also known among students and colleagues as a compassionate and supportive figure due to his high ethical standards.
His life reached its pinnacle with his marriage to Mojgan Daneshmand, who was also a distinguished scientist. The couple, sharing a unique similarity in expertise and spirit, became the first pair for whom the University of Alberta altered its hiring policies to appoint them simultaneously as professors. Despite achieving the rank of full professor, Pedram remained a humble individual whose greatest joy was spending time with his wife and two daughters, Darya and Darina, and serving the scientific community.
In January 2020, Pedram travelled to Iran with his family to visit his parents, a trip undertaken despite security warnings and solely for the joy of seeing loved ones. On their return journey to Canada in the early hours of 8 January 2020, Professor Pedram Mousavi, along with his wife and two young daughters, was aboard flight PS752 and perished in the tragic incident involving missile strikes by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
At the time of his passing, he was working on a revolutionary project involving wireless power transfer. Before he could realise his entrepreneurial dreams and further serve humanity, he became eternal in the skies over Tehran, along with all that he held dear.
پدرام موسوی (۱۳۵۱-۱۳۹۸)، استاد تمام مهندسی برق دانشگاه آلبرتا و دانشمندی در سطح جهانی، نمادی از اراده، تواضع و نبوغ ایرانی بود. او که دانش آموخته ی ممتاز دبیرستان البرز و دانشگاه علم و صنعت بود، برای ادامه ی تحصیل به کانادا مهاجرت کرد و با وجود سختی های فراوان غربت در دوران پیش از دنیای دیجیتال، موفق به کسب کرسی های علمی در دانشگاه های مانیتوبا و واترلو شد. پدرام نه تنها یک مخترع پیشرو با ده ها ثبت اختراع (از جمله آنتن های هوشمند ماهواره ای) و بیش از ۱۷۰ مقاله بین المللی بود، بلکه به دلیل اخلاق والایش، میان دانشجویان و همکارانش به پدری دلسوز و حامی مشهور بود.
زندگی او با ازدواج با مژگان دانشمند، که او نیز دانشمندی برجسته بود، به کمال رسید. این زوج که شباهتی بی نظیر در تخصص و روحیه داشتند، به اولین زوجی تبدیل شدند که دانشگاه آلبرتا قوانین خود را برای استخدام هم زمان آن ها به عنوان استاد تغییر داد. پدرام با وجود کسب جایگاه «استاد تمامی»، همواره انسانی فروتن باقی ماند که بزرگترین لذتش در کنار همسر و دو دخترش، دریا و درینا، و خدمت به جامعه ی علمی خلاصه می شد.
در دی ماه ۱۳۹۸، پدرام به همراه خانواده اش برای دیدار با والدین به ایران سفر کرد؛ سفری که علی رغم هشدارهای امنیتی و تنها به شوق دیدار عزیزان انجام شد. در راه برگشت به کانادا در سحرگاه ۱۸ دی ۱۳۹۸، پروفسور پدرام موسوی به همراه همسر و دو دختر خردسالش، مسافر پرواز PS752 بود و در فاجعه ی شلیک موشک های سپاه پاسداران جان باخت.
او که در حال کار روی پروژه ی انقلابی «انتقال بی سیم برق» بود، پیش از آنکه بتواند رویای کارآفرینی و خدمت بیشتر به بشریت را محقق کند، در آسمان تهران به همراه تمام دارایی زندگی اش ابدی شد.
