Azhdar Piri Sarmanloo

Azhdar Pir Sarmanlou was arrested by security forces in Karaj on 22 October 2024 and transferred to the central detention centre of the Alborz Province Intelligence Department. After undergoing interrogation, he was moved to the central prison of Karaj approximately three weeks later and subsequently released on bail of 200 million tomans.

During the judicial proceedings, Azhdar Pir Sarmanlou's case was reviewed by a judge at Branch 3 of the Karaj Revolutionary Court on 15 December 2025. He was sentenced to one year of imprisonment for propaganda against the regime on social media and was prohibited from engaging in social media activities for two years for insulting the leadership online.

On 3 May 2025, Azhdar Pir Sarmanlou, originally from Chaldoran and residing in Karaj, was arrested after appearing at the enforcement branch of the General and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office in Karaj to serve his one-year prison sentence. This arrest followed his conviction on political charges related to his media activities and publication of political articles. He had been transferred to Karaj Central Penitentiary to serve his one-year prison sentence.

Azhdar Piri Sarmanlou, editor-in-chief of the monthly magazine Pazhuhesh-e Melal, was granted an open-prison arrangement. He will serve the remainder of his prison sentence outside Karaj Central Penitentiary.
