Omid Faraghat was arrested on Monday, 29 June 2026, after responding to a phone summons and appearing at the security police. Following his transfer to the public and revolutionary prosecutor's office, a temporary detention order was issued, and he was sent to prison.
The judiciary had previously charged him with fabricated accusations of "disturbing public opinion" and "acting against national security" due to his critical writings.
This journalist had previously faced judicial proceedings for his activities. In November 2025, he was sentenced to three months in prison by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court. This sentence was later converted to a fine of 20 million tomans by Branch 36 of the Court of Appeal.
امید فراغت روز دوشنبه ۸ تیرماه ۱۴۰۵ (۲۹ ژوئن ۲۰۲۶)، پس از پیگیری یک احضاریه تلفنی و حضور در پلیس امنیت، بازداشت و پس از انتقال به دادسرای عمومی و انقلاب، با صدور قرار بازداشت موقت روانه زندان گردید.
دستگاه قضایی پیشتر وی را بابت یادداشت های انتقادی اش به اتهامات ساختگی «تشویش اذهان عمومی» و «اقدام علیه امنیت ملی» متهم کرده بود.
این روزنامه نگار پیشتر نیز بابت فعالیت های خود پرونده سازی قضایی را تجربه کرده بود؛ وی در آبان ماه ۱۴۰۴ توسط شعبه ۲۶ دادگاه انقلاب تهران به سه ماه حبس محکوم شد که این حکم در شعبه ۳۶ دادگاه تجدیدنظر به پرداخت ۲۰ میلیون تومان جزای نقدی تبدیل شده بود.
